Fanwood named among NJ’s Best Towns for Families
New Jersey Family released their list of “Best Towns in New Jersey for Families” for 2017 with Fanwood among the top 40! Fanwood is among the best towns for families to live, faring well in multiple categories. New Jersey Family measured each municipality against a host of important factors, including school district quality, crime rates, affordability, commute times, percentage of families who live there, access to hospitals and general lifestyle factors.
Fanwood’s public schools are part of the Scotch Plains-Fanwood School District. There are six elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school.
New Jersey Transit trains run from Fanwood to Newark, with connections to Penn Station or Lower Manhattan. Five new direct trains to and from Manhattan are running each weekday in the off-peak hours. New Jersey Transit also provides bus service from Fanwood to the Port Authority via the 113 line.
What to do:
Throughout the summer and fall, many neighborhoods in Fanwood hold block parties, while the whole town celebrates Fanny Wood Day in September. An extensive summer recreation program is offered at LaGrande Park, with everything from golf lessons to art and writing camps. The park’s tennis courts are turned into an ice-skating rink each winter. The town library and the arts center in the Carriage House beside borough hall offer poetry readings, lectures and musical coffeehouses.
